Instructions for Authors
(Based on ICMJE Recommendations, COPE Core Practices, and DOAJ Standards)
The Advanced Journal of Biomedicine & Medicine (AJBM) welcomes submissions that advance biomedicine, clinical medicine, and translational health sciences. All submissions must follow the instructions below.
1. General Principles
AJBM publishes original, peer-reviewed research articles, clinical studies, reviews, case reports, and brief communications. The journal follows the IMRAD structure (Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion) and upholds international standards for scientific writing and research integrity.
By submitting a manuscript to AJBM, authors confirm that the work is original, has not been published elsewhere, and is not under consideration by another journal.
2. Reporting Guidelines
Authors must prepare manuscripts according to the appropriate international reporting standards:
- Randomized Controlled Trials: CONSORT
- Observational Studies: STROBE
- Systematic Reviews & Meta-Analyses: PRISMA
- Diagnostic Accuracy Studies: STARD
- Case Reports: CARE
- Animal Studies: ARRIVE
- Qualitative Research: SRQR or COREQ
For complete guidance, visit the EQUATOR Network.
3. Manuscript Preparation
AJBM accepts the following article types:
- Original Research Articles (structured; ≤ 4,000 words)
- Review Articles / Systematic Reviews (≤ 6,000 words)
- Case Reports / Clinical Images (≤ 2,000 words)
- Short Communications (≤ 1,500 words)
- Editorials / Letters to the Editor (≤ 1,000 words)
Manuscripts must be written in English, using Times New Roman, 12-point font, double-spaced, with 2.5 cm margins, and saved as Microsoft Word (.docx).
4. Manuscript Sections
4.1 Title Page
The title page must include:
- Full, informative title (include study design where relevant)
- Full author names and institutional affiliations
- ORCID IDs for all authors (recommended)
- Corresponding author’s full contact details (email, phone, postal address)
- Funding statement and conflict-of-interest declaration
- Word count (excluding references, tables, and figures)
- Number of tables and figures
4.2 Abstract
Provide a structured abstract (250–300 words) with the following subheadings:
- Background
- Methods
- Results
- Conclusions
Include clinical trial registration number (if applicable) and 4–6 keywords (MeSH terms preferred).
4.3 Introduction
State the background, rationale, and objectives or hypothesis of the study. Cite only relevant and recent literature.
4.4 Methods
Describe study design, setting, population, eligibility criteria, interventions, and data collection methods. Identify ethical approval (IRB/REC name, approval number, date) and adherence to the Declaration of Helsinki (2013). Specify statistical analyses and software used.
4.5 Results
Present results in a clear and logical sequence, starting with baseline characteristics and moving to primary and secondary outcomes. Avoid duplication between text, tables, and figures.
4.6 Discussion
Interpret the main findings, relate them to previous studies, explain the clinical/scientific significance, and discuss limitations.
4.7 Conclusions
Provide concise, evidence-based conclusions consistent with the study aims.
5. References
AJBM uses the AMA citation style. References should be numbered consecutively in the order of first appearance in the text and identified by Arabic numerals in square brackets [ ].
Examples:
- Journal article: Rosenau C, Emery D, Keyboard B, Qoronfleh MW. Development of a high-throughput plate-based chemiluminescent transcription factor assay. J Biomol Screen. 2004;9(5):334–42.
- Book chapter: Oyer RA, Schlossberg D. Hematologic changes in tuberculosis. In: Schlossberg D, ed. Tuberculosis & Nontuberculous Mycobacterial Infections. 5th ed. New Delhi: Tata McGraw-Hill; 2007:357–64.
6. Tables and Figures
- Number tables and figures consecutively (Table 1, Table 2; Figure 1, Figure 2).
- Each should have a descriptive title and legend.
- Figures must be submitted in high-resolution JPEG/TIFF (≥300 dpi).
- Permissions must be obtained for reused or previously published material.
7. Units and Abbreviations
Use SI units throughout. Temperatures in °C; blood pressure in mm Hg. Define all abbreviations at first mention and avoid using abbreviations in the title and abstract.
8. Conflict of Interest
All authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest (financial, personal, institutional). If none exist, include the statement:
“The authors declare no conflicts of interest.”
9. Funding Disclosure
Identify all sources of financial and material support. If there was no specific funding, state:
“This research did not receive any specific grant from funding agencies in the public, commercial, or not-for-profit sectors.”
10. Ethical Considerations
For studies involving humans, provide IRB/REC approval details and confirm informed consent. Human research must follow the Declaration of Helsinki (2013). Animal research must follow ARRIVE or equivalent guidelines.
11. Data Availability
Include a Data Availability Statement indicating where the data supporting the findings can be accessed (public repository, institutional repository, or “available from the corresponding author on reasonable request”). If data cannot be shared, provide a justification (privacy, legal, or ethical restrictions).
12. Plagiarism and Research Misconduct
All submissions are screened using iThenticate or equivalent software. Manuscripts with a similarity index > 25% may be returned for revision or rejected. Fabrication, falsification, image manipulation, or duplicate submission constitute serious misconduct and will be handled according to COPE flowcharts.
13. Peer-Review Process
AJBM uses a double-blind peer-review system. Each manuscript is evaluated by at least two independent experts.
Indicative timeline:
Initial editorial screening: 2–3 weeks
External peer review: 4–6 weeks
Online publication: immediately after acceptance
Editorial decisions are based on scientific merit, originality, ethics, and journal scope.
14. Corrections, Retractions, and Appeals
AJBM follows COPE Retraction Guidelines. Corrections (errata/corrigenda), expressions of concern, and retractions will be issued when necessary to maintain the integrity of the scholarly record.
Authors may appeal editorial decisions by providing a detailed justification and supporting evidence. Appeals are reviewed by the Editor-in-Chief and/or the AJBM Ethics Committee; decisions are final.
15. Article Processing Charges (APCs)
AJBM is a fully open access journal.
- APC: USD 450 (covers editorial handling, peer review, production, online hosting, and archiving).
- Waivers/Discounts: Available for authors from low- and lower-middle-income countries or in cases of genuine hardship. Waiver requests should be made at the time of submission.
- No submission fee.
16. Copyright and Open Access License
All articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license.
Authors retain copyright and grant AJBM the right of first publication. The CC BY 4.0 license permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited.
